Auto-Download New Videos From an X Account

Add an X (Twitter) account as a monitored source and VidLoader downloads its new videos automatically on a schedule. A VidLoader Plus feature.

Auto-Download New Videos From an X Account

If there's an X (Twitter) account whose video posts you always want to keep, VidLoader's monitoring can watch it and download new videos automatically on a schedule. Set it up once and the clips come to you. This is a VidLoader Plus feature — here's the setup.

Why automate an X account?

If there's an account whose video posts you always want — a sports team, a news source, a creator — checking manually means you'll eventually miss one, or catch it after it's been deleted. Monitoring flips that around: you tell VidLoader which account to watch and how often, and it downloads new videos as they appear. That's especially handy for accounts that post time-sensitive clips you might not see in a busy timeline. Everything lands in your library automatically, so your archive stays current without any effort on your part.

What you'll need

  • The VidLoader desktop app — get it at vidloader.com
  • A VidLoader Plus subscription (monitoring is a Plus feature)
  • The X account URL you want to follow

Step 1 — Add the account as a source

Open the Monitor tab, click Add source, and paste the account's X profile link. Choose a check interval, a format and quality, and switch on auto-download.

Checking every hour or two is usually plenty to catch new video posts.

Step 2 — See it in your monitor list

The account appears in your Monitor list with its schedule and last-checked time. Run Check now for an immediate pass, or pause it any time.

Step 3 — New videos land in Clips

When the account posts a video, VidLoader downloads it and adds it to your Clips library automatically. Open the app later and the newest clips are already there.

Practical monitoring tips

Monitoring an X account works best when the interval matches how often the account posts video — there's no benefit to checking every few minutes for an account that posts once a day. VidLoader checks in the background while it's running, so keep the app open if you want reliable, hands-free capture; it can't check while it's closed. Any new videos are downloaded and filed automatically, and silent GIF posts will save as short, soundless clips just as they appear on X. If you occasionally want a single older clip rather than everything going forward, you can still grab it manually at any time. Between automatic monitoring and manual downloads, you can keep both a running archive and one-off saves in the same library. Running several account monitors at once is perfectly fine; give each the interval that suits it and let them share one library. If an account posts a mix of videos and silent GIFs, both are captured, so your archive reflects exactly what the account shared rather than a filtered subset.

Tips for better downloads

  • Match the interval to how often they post to keep checks efficient.
  • VidLoader checks while it's running — it can't check when the app is closed.
  • Just one clip? Grab it manually, including GIFs from X.
  • Silent GIFs will still save as short, soundless videos when monitored.

Frequently asked questions

Is this in the free plan? Monitoring is a VidLoader Plus feature. Free users can still download individual X videos manually, 10 a day. Plus is $9.99/month or $79.99/year and starts with a 3-day free trial.

Does it grab older posts? Monitoring focuses on new videos from when you add the source onward.

Do I have to keep the app open? VidLoader checks on schedule while it's running. Keep it open (or in the background) so it can work.
