Download Instagram Videos That Need Login

Some Instagram videos only load when signed in. Connect your session with the VidLoader browser extension, then download the videos your account can view.

Download Instagram Videos That Need Login

Some Instagram videos won't load unless you're signed in — followers-only posts, or content that simply asks you to log in first. VidLoader handles this by using your own signed-in session through its browser extension, so you can download the videos your account can already see. Here's how it fits together.

How VidLoader handles login-gated content

Some Instagram videos simply won't play unless Instagram knows who you are — followers-only posts, or content that prompts a sign-in before it loads. VidLoader doesn't ask you to hand over your password or paste anything sensitive into the app. Instead, its browser extension bridges the session you're already signed in to, so downloads use exactly the access your own account has. That's an important distinction: this lets you save what you can already watch, and it never reaches into private content that isn't yours to see. It's the same permission you already have, just applied to a download.

What you'll need

  • The VidLoader desktop app — get it at vidloader.com
  • The VidLoader browser extension, signed in to Instagram in your browser
  • The link to a video your account is allowed to view

Step 1 — Connect your session with the extension

The extension bridges your browser's signed-in Instagram session to VidLoader, so downloads use the same access your account already has. There's no cookie panel to fiddle with in the app — once the extension is connected, VidLoader can reach login-gated videos you're permitted to view.

This only unlocks content your own account can see. It doesn't bypass privacy or access anyone else's private videos.

Step 2 — Paste the video link in Add

Open Add and paste the Instagram link — including posts that normally prompt a login. VidLoader shows a preview and, with your session connected, prepares the download.

Step 3 — Download and watch from Clips

Press Download, follow it in the Queue, and the finished video lands in your Clips library — ready to replay like any other download.

Staying signed in and safe

The whole approach hinges on a valid session, so the main thing to remember is to stay logged in to Instagram in the browser where the extension runs. If Instagram signs you out, log back in and the extension picks the session back up. There's nothing to copy, paste, or store manually in the app, which keeps your credentials where they belong — in your browser. It's also worth repeating what this does and doesn't do: it lets you download videos your own account can already open, and it does not give you access to anyone's private content. Think of it as saving a file you're already allowed to watch, rather than getting around a lock. If a download of a login-gated video ever fails, the usual cause is a session that's gone stale — simply refreshing Instagram in your browser and signing back in resolves it. Because nothing is stored in the app, there's no cached credential to clear and no risk of a saved password lingering somewhere you'd forgotten about.

Tips for better downloads

  • Stay signed in to Instagram in the browser where the extension runs, so your session stays valid.
  • Only content you can view. This unlocks videos your account is already allowed to see — it's not a way around privacy.
  • Public Reels don't need this — grab those with our regular Reels guide.
  • Keep the extension connected for a smoother experience with any site that asks you to sign in.

Frequently asked questions

Do I paste cookies into the app? No. VidLoader gets your session through its browser extension, so there's no cookie box to manage in the app itself.

Can this download someone's private video I can't see? No. It only works for content your own signed-in account is already allowed to view. It doesn't bypass privacy settings.

Why do some videos ask me to log in? Instagram gates certain posts behind a sign-in. Connecting your session lets VidLoader load them the same way your browser does.
