Auto-Save New Instagram Videos From an Account

Add a public Instagram account as a monitored source and VidLoader downloads its new videos automatically on a schedule. A VidLoader Plus feature.

Auto-Save New Instagram Videos From an Account

Want a creator's new Instagram videos without checking the app all day? VidLoader's monitoring can watch a public account and download new posts automatically. Set the schedule once and let it run. This is a VidLoader Plus feature — here's how to set it up.

Who benefits from monitoring an account?

Monitoring suits anyone who follows an account closely and doesn't want to miss its videos. Maybe it's a brand tracking a competitor's public posts, a fan archiving a favorite creator, or a community manager keeping a record of an organisation's updates. Instead of opening Instagram several times a day to check for something new, you set VidLoader to watch the account on a schedule and it does the checking for you. New videos are waiting in your library the next time you open the app — no scrolling, no forgetting, no missed posts.

What you'll need

  • The VidLoader desktop app — get it at vidloader.com
  • A VidLoader Plus subscription (monitoring is a Plus feature)
  • A public Instagram account URL

Step 1 — Add the account as a source

Go to the Monitor tab and click Add source. Paste the account's profile link, choose how often to check, pick a format and quality, and enable auto-download.

Checking every few hours is a good default — it catches new posts without hammering the connection.

Step 2 — See it in your monitor list

The account now appears in your Monitor list with its schedule and status. Use Check now to run an immediate pass, or pause it whenever you want a break.

Step 3 — New videos arrive in Clips

As the account posts, VidLoader downloads new videos and files them in your Clips library, ready to watch whenever you open the app.

Keeping a monitor healthy

A monitored source runs best when a couple of conditions are met. Keep VidLoader open — even minimised — because it can only check while it's running; a source can't fetch anything while the app is closed or the computer is off. Pick an interval that suits the account's posting rhythm rather than checking constantly, which is easier on your connection and just as effective. If an account you follow is private, connect the browser extension first so the monitor uses access you already have. You stay in full control: pause a source when you want a break, mute its alerts if the notifications get noisy, or run a manual check the moment you suspect there's something new to grab. If you monitor several accounts, give each a sensible interval based on its own rhythm rather than one blanket setting, and consider muting alerts on the busier ones so notifications stay manageable. Everything still funnels into a single library, so a dozen monitored accounts don't turn into a dozen places to check.

Tips for better downloads

  • Public accounts work out of the box. For accounts you follow privately, connect your session with the browser extension first (see our login guide).
  • Keep VidLoader running so it can check on schedule — it can't check while the app is closed.
  • Only need one clip? Grab it manually with our Reels guide.
  • Mute alerts on a source if you'd rather not get a notification for every new post.

Frequently asked questions

Is monitoring included in the free plan? No — monitoring is a VidLoader Plus feature. Free users can still download Instagram videos manually, 10 a day. Plus is $9.99/month or $79.99/year and starts with a 3-day free trial.

Does it work for private accounts? You can monitor content your own account can already view. For private accounts you follow, connect your session with the browser extension first.

How far back does it go? Monitoring saves new posts going forward. Use a manual download for older videos.
